Update for wood track
project!!!
I have begun the building of
my wood track. There is an update on "My Track page
three" to explain what my overall plan is.
Updated 02/04/10
I have never done this, never watched anyone else do this and have no clue of how to do this... that being said, you'll get to benefit from my mistakes - which I will post as well as my accomplishments.
Why do something this complicated? because I'm a hands on type of guy with a limited amount of money and a desire to "Do it myself". Anyone can buy track, few can actually build it. I'm hoping I'm the one that makes it easier for more to do so.
Wish me luck and stay tuned.
Almost forget. If you want an email update when I post new info, send an email to me with the following in the subject header "Add me to your track posts"
I bought my set from www.hotslots132.com and I am very happy with it. I've had some problems with the track and cars but customer service has more than made up for it. Below, I have included the video links of Bryan from Technitoys.com explaining everything you can think of to learn about and fix SCX track and cars.
I don't regret my investment in my set though I have had several problems. I plan on making my own track using a router, copper foil tape and MDF board. I like the track SCX makes but it's a little limiting and expensive and I keep getting dead spots on the crossover tracks. I understand it has something to do with my controller / pit computer chip so we'll see when the replacement gets here.
Mostly though, I want hills and a little town so I can go up a couple of levels like a real road race and drive through a countryside. The trick will be how I tie into the controller track. I think It will be as simple as connecting a couple of jumper wires.
We'll experiment and see what happens next.
This weekend was great! I was finally able to spend time with my son and his friends on my track and as I suspected, they lost interest in the X-Box Halo 3 game that just came out.
For those out there that don't know the ramifications, for kids to ignore the newest, just released video game for old fashioned slot cars, that means the hobby still can hold its own. It is, after all the only thing from my childhood I can really share with him. We didn't have video games in the 60's and 70's. This WAS the the entertainment available at that time and greatfully, its back!
My kid wants to get the other controllers, add-ons and cars so we can run six cars. My wife (who was really dogging me about my waste of money) suggested we get the additional track and add-ons to expand the track to nearly triple its size!
Life is good... and it's only gonna get better!
